It is expected that by 2025, 75% of the working population will by millennials. This is the generation of workers that have been entering the workforce since 2000 and like all generations, they are different to the generations before them.

The millennial generation are confident and tech savvy. They are concerned about equal right and inclusiveness, more so than generations (as a whole) before them.

So how does this affect you as a business owner or employer? How can you get millennial recruitment right?

Do Things Differently

You need to do things different to attract potential candidates to work for your business. The millennial generation won’t be interested in the formal language you have been using for the last few years. Instead they want to see transparent and direct communications. The millennial generation are looking for employees that share their values.

Rather than hiding behind corporate statements and professional posed photos, be more forward thinking, and more personable. Talk to your employees about why they enjoy working for you and what they think about the company culture. Look for ways this can be used in your job adverts, marketing and website.

Be Research Ready

Potential candidates for your jobs will check you out online. This generation may not be able to remember a time when there were not mobile phones and they will use these devices to look at your job advert and your website. Make sure that your website is mobile-friendly.

Take the time to check out your Glassdoor reviews too. This is a website where employees can anonymously review their workplace. This is also a website where potential employees will check to see what the business is really about and if you are a potential future employer for them. Think about how you can respond to negative reviews to shine a positive light on your business as an employer.

Embrace Technology

If your office is all about paper and you have a paper admin heavy process, potential candidates will not be impressed. Millennials don’t want to work for a company that is behind the times. Instead they want to see modern computers and technology and well used CRM systems. An antique fax machine will not impress them!
